August 13 Update & More
First I would like to let you all know that my classes will be continuing throughout the month of August.
I am pleased to announce that in September I will also be teaching at The School of Dance and the Mount Pearl School of Dance.
Now to this week specifically.
After the Monday class I will show the video/DVD " The Tradition of Cecchetti" It is 55 minutes long and features a brief history of Cecchetti, excerpts of the syllabi and the "Blue Bird". Diane Van Schoor speaks about the method and the "Days of the Week" . There are short performances by dancers from the Royal Danish Ballet and Cleveland Ballet Companies. We will be on the floor so bring a cushion etc to aid with comfort!
On Tuesday afternoon after the afternoon classes I will play " The Heritage of Cecchetti" an audio recording of Diana Barker discussing the Maestro and his Method along with her reminiscences.
Wednesday Associate class will start at 5:15. This week we will continue discussing the musical forms 3/4 and tango/habanera and their uses in the ballet class. To begin our exploration of boy's work we will watch the DVD "Ballet for Boys". Finally we begin our journey through the "Essential Theoretical Principles of Classical Theatrical Dancing" as outlined in Book One of The Manual.
This week the Saturday class will be held in Mount Pearl. MPSD is having an Open House and as I will be the staff this season I want to be available. I am hoping that you will join me and get together to organize transportation. The number 20 bus does not run on the week end but the meandering #21 public limo leaves the Village Mall faithfully on the half hour.
For those in class this past Saturday I have more info on " Paquita" . It was first performed in 1846 at the Paris Opera, Choreography J. Mazilier and Music E. Deldevez. However an important and much revised production premiered in St. Petersburg in 1881. This is when M. Petipa inserted the famous "grand pas" with music by L. Minkus . The girl is a gypsy and the setting is Spain. I will bring more info about this ballet during the week.
