Saturday, October 21, 2006

Blackmore Ballet begins on Saturday 21, October...........at The School of Dance .. 163 Water Street. 2:15 .......be there !!!

Here is the starting schedule. In addition to this basic group of classes, I hope to add additional Advanced 2/Diploma Classes, private coaching and the History of Ballet class. Thanks to the dancers who sent in their requests. The schedule does try reflect these preferences however it was necessary to work around available studio space. Some of these times may be adjusted. Let me know if a small change may help you attend a class. A big thank you to the schools/companies who have made their studios available. All classes are dependent on sufficient enrolment. I hope you will share this with others who love to dance, like I do and may be interested in these classes.

I anticipate this season's sessions will have the same open atmosphere that we all enjoyed this past summer. It was, as always, great to work with my many long time students but especially to have the opportunity to share with dancers from such diverse backgrounds and experiences. Hoping to accommodate a variety of training experiences dancers are welcome to the occasional drop in, attendance once or twice a week, supplementing their established training schedule, or others may choose to dance intensively as much as the schedule allows. Although primarily focused towards the Intermediate/ Advanced dancer, classes are open to all able to participate at a sufficient level. However I do reserve the right to restrict participation , especially pointe classes as ultimately the health of the dancer is paramount. All are welcome to come, dance and enjoy any of the syllabus Intermediate/Advanced 1&2/Diploma classes. The work is interesting, beautiful, indeed challenging at times but also a lot of fun! However, if you are exam candidates hoping to enter under my sponsorship, I remind you that entrance to all examinations is at the discretion of Blackmore Dance.

Mid October Update

The season is advancing , the evenings shorter and cooler, the last flowers bloom and the leaves begin to show their brilliant shades against the rocks. This journey continues to progress very slowly . We had planned to be there by now unfortunately the prevailing and very persistent westerly wind and swell has been a battle. We have made some progress since my last post but only by motoring ,without any sail power, through any calms from midnight to the early morning. This of course means chilly watches through the long autumn nights. While at sea the dark sky has been lit by the moon and splashed with stars under the watchful guard of Orion .

Again we find ourselves in port waiting for low pressure systems to pass. I will have to decide over the next two days if I can continue with the journey or return to St. John's. I had very much hoped to complete the passage seeing Chris and Beyond settled in Rochester but we had genuinely believed to be there by now!

So I hope you are all keeping in shape. When I do return I really want to get straight to work. If you are planning on preparing for a ballet exam I hope you will review any material that you have already covered. As well as space for the Saturday class, I now have studio space on Monday evening and Friday afternoon/evening. I will announce the locations when all are confirmed and I have made a firm schedule. I am still working on another evening location. Let me know if you have any ideas. Also spread the word about the upcoming classes, as well a working with all of you, I am thinking there may be others interested in supplemented their regular training. I have asked Sarah Mackey to help with any syllabus questions you may have.

So I hope you are all well and stay tuned here for updates.

First thanks to all of you who have responded about my classes that I will beholding later in the fall. Also, it has been great receiving greetings from those of you who I have not seen in awhile . I hope to hear from more of you over the next while. I have a location for the Saturday Advanced ballet class and I am continuing to look for studio space for a some of late afternoon /evening classes. Day time studio availability should not be too difficult. Now to the journey update................

All is well if indeed taking much longer than planned. We have spent a fair bit of time in various ports waiting for favourable weather. Not to worry, although we were some distance from Tropical Storm Isaac it was necessary to tuck away in a very safe and friendly harbour where we now wait out, yet again, another low pressure system.

Travelling on the water this time of year can bring some challenges. We have encountered some rough seas, poor forecasts bringing unpredicted weather. This means that after making port, drying out, sorting and organizing are a must, and indeed often equipment adjustment is required, especially when sailing in our very sea worthy, yet new, boat.

This time we find ourselves in a comfortable port with access to water, washrooms, laundry, fuel, groceries and wireless internet/telephone (which is not always reliable!). It's been great to get out and enjoy the unique architecture, roaming through the maze of streets. Animals wander freely and there are amazing flower and vegetable gardens tucked quietly behind fences and stone walls.

After today internet will not be available for some time. Please continue to send your class preferences, requests and messages though, I will get them at the next port.

So, wish us moderate yet favourable winds, from a direction that allows us to make speed and allow us to begin reeling in the miles.
